Sharry R. Rogers Obituary

Sharry R. Rogers, 84, of Hounsfield, NY passed away peacefully at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse on October 5, 2025. She was surrounded by her family.

Born on December 31, 1940, in Watertown, NY. She was the daughter of August L. and L. Wylma (Carter) Reinhardt. Sharry was a graduate of Hounsfield Central School Class of 1958.

In February 1965 she married Jean C. Rogers at the Dexter Episcopal Church. The couple celebrated their 60thwedding anniversary this past February. Together they operated a dairy farm and raised four children who were the shining lights of their lives.

Sharry was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Jean made it a priority to attend as many of the games of their children and grandchildren as humanly possible. Often delivering a forgotten uniform or softball glove and even rearranging the milking schedule to make it to an early game.

She was a leader of the East Hounsfield Shamrocks 4-H Club. She taught young people to sew and helped craftpublic presentations. She helped prepare entries for The Jefferson County Fair from green beans to photography and jam. She once chaperoned a 4-H trip to Toronto with only an hour’s notice. There were lots of pumpkins grown in her garden for the 4-H Great Pumpkin contest. Several were winners.

Sharry was the chief hay baler on our farm. Each summer she would roll through the windrows of hay, pack wagons with bales and replace shear pins each day until the barns were finally full. She and Jean worked tirelessly together nearly every day to make the farm successful.

Sharry was an active member of the Hounsfield community. She advocated for the creation of the first water district in our town, worked election days, collected signatures for petitions and candidates, attended town board meetings and spoke her mind at quite a few of those meetings.

She was a member of Jefferson County Grange, a board member of Cornell Cooperative Extension, and in her younger years she was an avid bowler who often bowledat least two nights a week.

Sharry is survived by her children, Zachary (Sarah) Rogers of Watertown, Shayne Rogers of Richmond, VA, Matthew Rogers of Watertown, and Mark (Jerri) Rogers of Mebane, NC; as well as four beloved grandchildren, Craig (Emily) Rogers, Amanda (Shane) Rowell, Ella (Tucker) Wilson and Jack Rogers; a precious great-granddaughter, Eva Rogers; siblings Lee Reinhardt of Heber City, UT,Larry L. (Christina) Reinhardt of Dexter, Lonny (Diane) Reinhardt of Sackets Harbor, Linda (Roger) Brunet of Sackets Harbor, Sheila (Sherman) Tucker of Dexter and so many many nieces and nephews. Also, Elnora M. Suber of Watertown, a dear family friend.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her uncle F. Weldon Carter.

The Rogers Family is grateful beyond measure for the care and compassion shown to Sharry by the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, so many caregivers who assisted Sharry and Jean through the years and Jefferson County Social Services.

We would like to especially thank Andrea Morgia for the kindness and generosity she showed our mother.

Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday October 10thfrom 1pm-4pm at The Gathering Barn at Old McDonalds Farm 14369 County RT. 145 Sackets Harbor.
