Robert L. Lawson Obituary

Three Mile Bay, NY – Robert J. Lawson, 76, passed away peacefully on February 25,2025 at his home surrounded by friends and family.

Born on July 24, 1948, in Malone, NY, he was the son of James Albert and Joyce Lois (Brown) Lawson. Robert (Bob) attended a two room schoolhouse in Owls Head, NY before transferring to Franklin Academy High School where he graduated.

In May of 1985 he met his wife Tracey Hewitt. He then moved to Calcium, NY in 1986. The couple married on May 28, 1988, at the Three Mile Bay United Methodist Church and made their home in Three Mile Bay in December of 1990.

Throughout his career Bob held numerous jobs to include being a lifeguard at Meacham Lake campground, working on the Buck Pond construction crew, caretaker and guide at Ross Park in Paul Smiths and working with his Dad James Lawson on construction projects in St. Petersburg, Florida. Robert dedicated much of his career to public service, working as a security guard at Jefferson County public buildings before becoming a deputy sherriff at the Jefferson County jail in Watertown. He retired in July 2010.

As an avid outdoorsman, Bob found great joy in hunting and fishing. He loved nothing more than to be on his tractor tilling the dirt. He spent many enjoyable hours at the Owl Mountain Club, Malone NY where he spent treasured time with some of his most beloved friends and family. He especially cherished the time he spent teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren these skills and sharing his love for nature with them. Bob helped to manage the Owl Mountain Club by serving on the Board of Directors in various positions.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Tracey Lawson; his step mother Mary Lawson of Saint Petersburg, FL, his children, James (Lisa) Decker of Nashville, TN, and Carrie (Lester) Entz of Jersey Shore, PA; six grandchildren, Amanda Patraw, Melissa and Jon Boob, Ryan and Caitlin Patraw, Courtney Entz, Samuel Decker, and Hannah Decker; ten great-grandchildren; his brothers, John (Mary) Lawson of Roanoke, VA, and Glenn Lawson of Mountain View, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place, and no services will be held at this time.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Three Mile Bay Fire Department, Chaumont Fire Department, Cape Vincent Fire Department, the Three Mile Bay United Methodist Church or Hospice of JeffersonCounty.
