Robert C. LaSage Obituary

Robert C. LaSage, 83, of Pillar Point, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on December 31, 2025.

Bob was born on August 2, 1942, in Watertown, New York, the son of Charles Edward LaSage and Bernice (Hodge) LaSage. He attended Watertown High School and, on August 31, 1962, married the love of his life, Jean E. Edson, at the Watertown Baptist Church. Together they shared 63 loving years of marriage and resided most of their married life on Pillar Point.

Bob worked various jobs throughout his life in the local area, but his greatest pride and dedication was to volunteer fire service and his community. He joined the Dexter Fire Department, Pillar Point Fire Station in June of 1979 and was a devoted and active member for decades. He served as Third Assistant Chief of the Pillar Point Fire Station from 1985 to 1993. He then took over as DFD Incorporation Treasurer of station 2 in 2000, a position he held faithfully until April 2024—24 years of dedicated service.

In recognition of his commitment, Bob was named Dexter Fire Department Firefighter of the Year in 1994. At last year’s annual DFD banquet, he was presented with a plaque honoring his many years of service and leadership in the numerous office positions he held. Bob was instrumental in organizing and running many Pillar Point Fire Department activities and events, most notably the ice and bass fishing derbies, which he oversaw for many years.

Bob was known for his honesty, his willingness to speak his mind, and his deep commitment to keeping the department strong and accountable. He was truly the heartbeat of the Pillar Point Fire Department, and his passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.

Bob’s wife, Jean, also served as a longtime member of the Pillar Point Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and is retired from Mercy Medical Center. Together, Bob and Jean made their home on Pillar Point along the shores of Lake Ontario, where Bob loved fishing, boating, and hunting. He never sat still and was a true jack-of-all-trades, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jean E. LaSage; his four daughters, Cynthia (Thomas) Watson of Pillar Point, NY, JoAnne (Gary) Edeberg, South Carolina, Katrina (Robert) Riddle of Dixon, Missouri, and Kimberly (Mark) Byers of Florida; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; his brother, Stanley LaSage; a sister Peggy Hamblin, several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Whiskers.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Betty Jean Eggleston; his brothers, Ronald LaSage and Donnie LaSage; and his cherished dogs, Bud and Trixie.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the funeral home, with Reverend Leon Van Wie officiating. The Dexter Fire Department will conduct a Ringing of the Bell Ceremony in Bob’s honor.

The family respectfully asks that, due to severe allergies of a family member, NO flowers be sent, with the exception of dish gardens or please consider making a donations in Bob’s memory to the Dexter Volunteer Fire Station 2 (Pillar Point Fire Station).
