Paul R. Shannon Obituary

Paul R. Shannon, 68, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on October 21, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse. 

Paul was born on February 10, 1956, in Syracuse, the son of Harold and Margaret (Decker) Shannon. He graduated from General Brown High School in 1975 and began his career in retail, working at Woolworths and Nichols Department Store in Watertown. His retail career took him to Buffalo and eventually Syracuse, where he moved in 1986. He worked as a manager at Champion Outlet and held various positions in other retail stores throughout his life. Paul earned an associate degree in Hospitality and Tourism from Jefferson Community College while maintaining his career in retail

On June 25, 1983, Paul married Cynthia Chapman at Immaculate Conception Church. Together, they had a daughter before their marriage ended in divorce. 

Paul enjoyed four-wheeling, hunting, and spending time at the hunting camps he and his friends owned over the years in Harrisville, Star Lake, and Barnes Corners. He was also a former member of the Glen Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth M. Shannon, and her fiancé, Elijah LaClair, of Watertown, NY; his two sisters and their husbands, Linda (James) Gracey and Nancy (James) Abbott, of Dexter, NY; best friend, Phil Barnett as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jeffrey Shannon. 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. 

A Funeral Mass will be said on Wednesday, October 30, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Brownville, with burial to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Redwood, NY.
