DEXTER, NY – Mark J. Hoard, 64, of Dexter, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at Oswego Health, surrounded by his loving family.
Mark was born on November 30, 1960, in Brockport, NY, the son of C. Gerald and Constance (Geiger) Hoard. He graduated from General Brown High School in 1979 and went on to attend the Merchant Marine Academy for three years.
Mark began his career as a contractor, working in the Clayton area. He went to work at Brownville Specialty Paper Products as a papermaker and while working there he earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Empire State College. He used his degree to become a production supervisor at Knowlton’s Bros. in Watertown and Climax in Lowville. Mark later joined Ox Industries in Carthage, where he remained until his retirement in 2016 due to disability.
He married the love of his life, MonaLee, and the couple made their home in Dexter. Mona currently works at Dollar General in Chaumont.
Mark enjoyed attending concerts, building and fixing things around the house, and spending time near the water. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Among his survivors are his beloved wife, MonaLee Hoard; his four children, Jared J. Hoard and Bailey L. Hoard, both of Glen Park, NY; Taylor L. Migneault of Dexter, NY; and Sarah A. (Brandon) Hart of Watertown, NY; two adored granddaughters, Elora and Amelia; three sisters and their husbands, Kathy (Mark) Tellier, of Maryland , Kelly (Grant) Hauber of Buffalo, NY, and Kristan (Mike) Setaro of Rochester, NY; his beloved mother, Constance Hoard of Brownville, NY; and his mother-in-law, MaryLou Garnsey. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Following services, the family will host a Celebration of Life at the Rustic Golf Course.
