Obituary

Margaret M. Thompson, our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away October 17, 2015 at her home surrounded by family. Margaret was born April 27, 1937 in Watertown, the daughter of Howard and Gloria Christie Sawyer. She graduated from Copenhagen High School in 1954. She married the love of her life Merton C. Thompson on December 17, 1955 by Rev. John Wetzeler at Rutland Congregational Church. Margaret was employed at Sears & Roebuck as a switchboard operator, later she worked as a telephone operator at NY Telephone. Prior to her marriage she was asked to model wedding dresses at Smith & Percy Dept. Store. She was a homemaker lived the majority of her life working side by side with her husband on the family farm where she also loved to cook; well known for her apple pies she sold at the annual Relay for Life, play her piano, and was an avid gardener. She loved spending time with her family of 49. She enjoyed crocheting making sure every grandchild and great grandchild received a sweater set or baby blanket. She is survived by the following children and their spouses: LuAnn and Chris Cross of Potsdam, Kathy Dyer, Christine and Scott Rickett, Michelle Thompson and John Leo all of Three Mile Bay, John and Tanya Thompson of Three Mile Bay, Mark and Sue Thompson of Chaumont and Kevin and Vicki Thompson of Brownville. She also has sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Merton in 2006 and also by six siblings. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter at 1:00 P.M. with calling hours prior from 11:00-1:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Military Cemetery at Sackets Harbor. Donations may be made to Lyme Central School Merton C. Thompson Scholarship Fund, Watertown Relay for Life the M & M Team or the Three Mile Bay Ambulance Squad.
