Lois M. LaForty, 85, formerly of Dexter, New York, passed away peacefully September 9, 2025 at the Samaritan Summit Village where she had been a resident.
She was born on May 8, 1940, in the Town of Pamelia, NY, the daughter of Ella M. Carr. Lois attended Dexter High School and later married Charles LaForty. Together they had three children and shared several years of marriage before eventually divorcing.
Lois worked various retail jobs in the local area over the years and retired from Kinney Drugs on Coffeen Street, where she was employed as a clerk. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dale L. and Mary A. LaForty of Dexter, NY; eight grandchildren: Leigh and Jason Badaloto, Jamie Egan, Jessica and Jason McDonald, Jeff and Kate LaForty, Corey and Sohyean Combs, Ashley and Andrew Jensen, Jessica Combs, and Shawn Combs; five great-grandchildren: Jason Badalato, Chloe Badalato , Clayton LaForty, Jackson LaForty, and Ahyoung Combs; her brother and sister-in-law, Lyman and Cindy Barnett of Fonda, NY; two sons-in-law: Rick Combs of Black River, NY, and Patrick McCann of Geneva, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her former husband, Charles LaForty; two daughters, Mary Combs and Debra McCann; three sisters, Sandra Brothers, Mary Secor, and Eva Marino; and three brothers, James Barnett, Robert Barnett, and Edgar Barnett.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 14, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in North Watertown Cemetery.
