John M. Phillips, 68, of Dexter, NY, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born on May 10, 1956, in Watertown, NY, John was the son of William and Lila (Carter) Phillips. He attended Watertown High School and later married the love of his life, Bambi L. Favry, on March 1, 1975, in Watertown. The couple resided in Watertown until 1990, when they purchased their home in Dexter.
John began his career at Riverside Materials and worked for various construction companies before joining Barrett Paving in 1993. He worked there as a tack truck driver for 23 years until his retirement. Beyond his work, John was a talented drummer and played with the band Ray John and the Wanderers for 21 years, bringing joy and music to many. He was also a huge lover of animals.
Bambi devoted her career to caregiving and service, working for Home for the Aged for 13 years, AMS Administrative Management Systems in Sackets Harbor for eight years, and currently driving for First Student in Watertown.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Bambi L. Phillips, of Dexter; two sons and their spouses, John M. Jr. (Danielle) Phillips of Brownville, NY, and Scott M. (Cara) Phillips of Huntersville, NC; and three grandchildren, Collin, Ethan, and Jaxson. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Phillips of Watertown, NY; his sister, Trina Decillis of Auburn, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 7th at the Johnson Funeral Home, a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in the Dexter Cemetery on Saturday, May 10th at 11 a.m.
