Jason Price Obituary

Jason R. Price, a free spirit with an infectious love for life and adventure, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Though he bravely battled a long illness, Jason’s spirit remained strong, his smile unwavering, and his heart full of love for those around him.

Born on July 6, 1983, in Watertown, New York, Jason was the beloved son of Thomas W. and Michele A. (Howard) Price. He grew up in the Dexter/Brownville area, graduating from General Brown High School in 2001. Following high school, Jason pursued his passion for culinary arts, first attending Jefferson Community College and later graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park in 2009.

Jason’s talent in the kitchen shone brightly throughout his career. He played an instrumental role as the chef and manager when Maggie’s on the River first opened, later bringing his culinary skills to Ruby Tuesday’s before returning to Maggie’s. Most recently, he showcased his love for food and hospitality at Good Fellos in Sackets Harbor. Jason’s creativity extended beyond the kitchen — he founded the Brew York Festival in Sackets Harbor, bringing people together to celebrate music, craft beer and community. He was also the proud founder of the Rock Out Childhood Cancer Foundation (ROCC), a cause close to his heart.

Jason had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did. Whether he was casting a fishing line on a peaceful lake with his 2 sons, hiking through the great outdoors, golfing with friends, enjoying music or entertaining loved ones with his incredible cooking, Jason embraced every moment with joy. His love for family knew no bounds, and his bond with his dog, Mowgli, was something truly special.

He is survived by his cherished sons, Caleb Price of Watertown and Carter Chapman of Springfield, Missouri; his loving mother, Michele Price of Dexter; his father and stepmother, Thomas and Stephanie Price of Fort Myers Beach, Florida; his brother, Aaron (Jessica) Price, of Syracuse; and his adored nieces, Mariah Washer, Carly Price, and Cora Price.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Samaritan Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital for their compassionate care.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 19, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter. The funeral will immediately follow calling hours at the Johnson Funeral Home at 6 p.m.  A reception will be held at the Dexter American Legion following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jason’s memory to the Hope Lodge at  https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com or 132 W 32nd St, New York, New York.

Jason’s adventurous spirit, kind heart, and warm smile will be dearly missed but never forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
