Hilda A. (Cassell) Farr, 96, of Dexter, New York, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, at her home, under the care of hospice, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 1, 1927, in Watertown, New York, Hilda was the daughter of the late I. Raymond and Marjorie J. (Stopforth) Cassell. She graduated from Brownville/Glen-Park High School and continued her education by attending the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown, New York. Hilda completed her internships in New York City and at the Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, thus earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1948.
Hilda married the love of her life, Eric C. Farr Sr., on October 1, 1949, at the Brownville Methodist Church. The couple resided on the family farm in Dexter, where they raised their six children. Hilda was a homemaker as well as serving as business manager and secretary for Eric Farr and Sons Used Auto Parts. Her beloved husband, Eric, passed away on October 11, 2009. The family business continues to be operated by their sons.
Hilda was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Mercy Hospital alumni. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying their many sporting events and school activities. Hilda was also an avid reader with a particular love for romance novels and watching the Hallmark Channel. Her expertise in making wedding cakes was well-known, the most amazing being a 3D castle.
Hilda is survived by her six children: Casilda M. (John) Peckham of Watertown, NY; Charlene D. Farr of Dexter, NY; Eric C. “Bud” (Sandra) Farr Jr. of Watertown, NY; Cheryl D. (Frank) Burns of Sackets Harbor, NY; H. Tommy R. (Linda) Farr of Watertown, NY; and Starr V. (Angelo) Peters of Dexter, NY. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild expected to arrive in August. Hilda not only had her own children, but took in and treated her childrens' friends as her own, not to mention a few cousins that did not want to find their way home.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hilda was predeceased by her grandson, Jon Farr; her brother, Frederick Cassell; and her sister, Wava Curtis.
