Gerald R. Scales

Gerald R. Scales, 79, of Clayton, New York passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, New York, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 30,1944 in Watertown, NY, the son of William and Alta (Adams) Scales.

 After completing his education, Gerald enlisted in the United States Army before embarking on a career that spanned over 52 years. He held various roles in North Country manufacturing plants before finding his calling as a meat cutter. His dedication and skill earned him the position of meat manager at the local Big M, later known as the Sure Fine Market in Clayton, where Gerald was recognized as the Best Meat Manager in his District Region, earning the respect of his peers.

Beyond his professional life, Gerald was an avid sports enthusiast, hunter, and gardener. He found solace and joy in fishing on the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario and cherished the thrilling experience of deep sea fishing.

In November of 1962, Gerald married the love of his life, Helen Mary Wescott, and together they made their home in Clayton, New York.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Helen; his children - Shannon (Debrann) Scales of Arizona, Shawn (Mark) Hays of Clayton, N.Y.,  Shayne (Kevin) Lippincott of New York and Florida, Sheri (Scott) Soluri of Florida; a daughter-in-law Teri Scales of North Carolina; his sister Darlene DiGregorio of Liverpool N.Y; and  grandchildren, Kevin, Shyla, Morgan, Justin, Geraka, Dawson, Aubree and 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, whom he adored all.

Gerald is predeceased by his parents; a son Stacy; a sister Judith Schwalm; two brothers-in-law, Joesph DiGregorio and Thomas Schwalm; and many aunts and uncles.

Gerald will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who knew him for his dedication, kindness, and love.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
