Evelyn L. DeMars

Evelyn Lilly DeMars, 90, of Westland, MI, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2021,  at the home of her daughter and son in law.

She was born on September 24, 1930, in Gould City Michigan, daughter of Harry and Emma McNeil.

Evelyn married the love of her life Russell Joseph DeMars on June 26, 1948 and the couple was married for 54 years before Russell was taken from her on September 22, 2002.

Evie was everyone’s favorite hairdresser, but above all, a homemaker who was always there for her husband, children, extended family and friends.  She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking and baking for all.  She enjoyed crocheting and if you were fortunate enough, you may even still have a pair of booties or a crocheted towel hanging on your refrigerator handle.  In her later years she enjoyed line dancing with her friends, reading the local news, novels/magazines and enjoying kicking everyone’s butt at Cribbage with a smile.  Most of all she cherished her time with her family and friends.
Among her survivors are her son and daughter in law, Mathew Anthony and Linda DeMars, of Canton, MI; a daughter and son in law, Dawn Marie and Christopher Bastien, of Dexter, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey and Stephanie DeMars, Jennifer and Christopher Fendt, Brian and Hayley DeMars, Brandon and Sarah DeMars, CJ and Shauna Bastien, Ron Bastien and Alex Scaringe, and Ashley and Taylor Jones; her great grandchildren, Michael, Anna, Hunter, and Helena; Audrey and Emily Fendt; Eleanor and Scarlett DeMars; Landon Bastien; Blakely and Oaklyn Jones; her brother, John Hugh McNeil, and many nieces, nephews and friends all over the United States.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband Russell Joseph DeMars, two sons, Russell Harry and Ronald Joseph DeMars, five brothers, Cecil, James, Daniel, George, Donald, and three sisters, Frances, Josephine, and Mary, and so many more loved ones.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. 

She will be laid to rest in Gould City, MI in the Township Cemetery in the spring.
