Ernest “Ernie” Emory Narrow Sr., 76, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, at River Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer.
Ernie was born on February 19, 1947, to the late Edward and Erva (Schultz) Narrow, and he attended school at Indian River.
Ernie was a machinist at the New York Air Brake for 39 years, before retiring for health reasons. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Brownville American Legion.
He found joy in camping, fishing, and watching sports, but more importantly the time he spent with his family and friends. His most cherished title was that of a grandpa, and he took immense pride in his children and grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by his children: Ernest (Lisa) Narrow, Watertown, Tina (Mark) Kimmis, Adams, Tammy Narrow and her companion, William Gilmore, Watertown, and Timothy (Carrie) Narrow, Clayton; his beloved grandchildren, Kylie Kimmis, Brittany, and Mariah Cullen, William and Kimberly Gilmore, Gage and Jena Narrow, as well as step-grandchildren, Samantha Funk and Anthony Kimmis. Four great grandchildren and he was also anticipating the arrival of two more great-grandchildren with excitement. Ernie shared his life with his long-term companion, Pauline Donato, and his ex-wife and mother of his children, Peggy (LaSage) Hamblin. He is also survived by his siblings: Elbert (Carol) Narrow, Brownville, Erwin Narrow,Texas, Elmer (Eva) Narrow, Homer, Earl Narrow, California, Esther (Gary) Thompson, South Carolina, Ernestine (James) Hogancamp, Rochester, Eva (William) Taylor, Texas, along with several nieces, nephews, and his loyal dog, George.
Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Erva, and his siblings Elec, Eric, Eddie, and Ellis.
A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 16th, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Adams American Legion.
Arrangements are being handled by the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the compassionate providers at River Hospital, Dr. Ruhal Seth and Dr. Kristen Kelly, and their staff at SUNY Upstate Oncology.
