Edward Whalen Obituary

Edward Thomas “Eddie” Whalen, beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on August 2, 2025 at his home in Sackets Harbor, New York.

Eddie, 76, was born to Kendall Charles and Marjorie Ann (Kay) Whalen in Watertown, New York on September 23, 1948.

Eddie grew up in Sackets Harbor and was a 1966 graduate of Sacket High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967. He served two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1970. Unfortunately, while serving in Vietnam he was exposed to the defoliant Agent Orange which so negatively impacted his health in his final years. Ed spent much of his work life in construction as a drywall hanger and painter, last working for Lawman Construction out of Sackets Harbor.

One of Eddie’s proudest achievements was that he accomplished a sustained recovery and gained his 35-year sobriety chip in December 2024.

He is survived by his brother Kendall James (Anne) Whalen of Farmington, New York, his sisters Loretta Kay Stamps of Adams, New York, and Mary Leta Corboy of Sackets Harbor, his sisters-in-law Mary Jane Caputo Whalen, Chittenango, New York, and Nancy Cole Whalen, Canandaigua, New York, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pre-deceased are his parents and his stepmother Alfrieda Whalen, his brothers Charles Howard Whalen and Patrick Jude Whalen, and his brothers-in-law David Francis Stamps and Daniel Lawrence Corboy.

Eddie was beyond grateful for the wonderful care he received from the Syracuse VA Hospital and the Watertown VA clinic. Their support made it possible for him to live at home. We would also like to thank the doctors and staff at the Walker Cancer Treatment Center and Samaritan Medical Center for their expert care.
