Dona Keenan Obituary

Dona D Keenan, 83, of Black River New York, passed away peacefully at Samaritan Keep Home on January 2, 2024, surrounded by family.

Born October 1, 1940, in Watertown, New York, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Madison) Davis. Dona attended school in Lowville and later embarked on a career selling Avon products. On January 3rd, 1959, she married the love of her life, Leo E. Keenan Jr, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan, New York. The couple made Black River their home, where they spent their entire married lives. Dona dedicated herself to being a loving homemaker and worked for 26 years as a lunch monitor at Black River Elementary School before her retirement. Leo, a retired purchasing manager from Bomax, later worked as a salesman at Caskinette Ford in Carthage. Dona's commitment extended beyond her family as she served as a Girl Scout leader, volunteered for the PTO, and actively participated with her husband in several car clubs including the Highway Legends, and Northern Cruisers. They were also members of the Cosmopolitan Dance Club in Watertown. Dona found great joy in tending to her flowers, and painting ceramics. Known for maintaining a pristine home, she took great pride in being a supportive mother, attending every school event for her children and her grandchildren. Dona was also a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her greatest accomplishment was ensuring her daughters all received a good education to go on and have successful careers.

Dona is survived by her beloved husband, Leo E Keenan Jr., three children, Tammy K. (Richard C.) Blunden, Carthage, NY, Becky J. (Sean P) Egnew, Hanahan, SC, and Cindy J. Keenan and her companion Greg Gagnon, Carthage, NY ; 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Brian) Krueger, Katelynn (A.J.) Mosher, Megan Keenan, Patrick Renaud, Jacqueline Renaud, Sean Egnew, and Kelcie Egnew; two great grandchildren, Jameson and Kennedy, a brother-in-law, Martin Keenan, TN, and two nephews.

Dona was predeceased by her parents, her brother Wayne Davis, and a sister-in-law, Jan Keenan.
