Clifton Carl Snyder Obituary

Clifton Carl Snyder, 78, of Dexter, NY, passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 9, 1947, in Watertown, NY, the son of Joseph G. and Edith (Brass) Snyder. Clif attended Lyme Central School and began his career working alongside his father who owned and operated Joe Snyder’s Custom Farming, serving farms throughout the county for many years.

He later worked at Taylor Implement on West Main Street in Watertown as a farm equipment operator and mechanic. Clif went on to work for the Town of Brownville as a heavy equipment operator, welder, and fabricator for 36 years until his retirement.

On October 19, 1968, Clif married Linda Greenizen at Immaculate Conception Church. The couple made their home in Dexter, where they lived throughout their married life. Linda worked at Key Bank in Dexter and as a bus driver for the General Brown School District for many years, retiring in 2009.

Clif was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and member of the Teamsters Union. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, and he had a passion for racing, often driving stock cars at Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville.Known as a jack of all trades, Clif could be often found tinkering on vehicles and equipment for family and friends, always ready to lend a hand when needed.   He also took great pride in cutting his own wood each year to heat his home.

Among his survivors are his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda Rae Snyder; three children and their spouses: Clifton J. (Heather) Snyder of Watertown, NY, Melissa R. (Todd) Townsend of Dexter, NY, and Melinda R. (Jason) Whalen of Adams, NY and their adopted son and his wife, Jason and Kate Peer, Watertown, NY.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great-grandsons, two more great grandchildren on the way,  a sister and brother-in-law, Maryanne and Arthur Hilts of Dexter, NY, his caregiver, Linda Lister, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Clif was predeceased by two sisters, Karen Anderson and Deborah Davis Hoffman.

Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 23 at Johnson Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday, November 24 at Immaculate Conception Church in Brownville.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Brownville Cemetery.
