Anne R. Ebbrecht Obituary

Anne R. Ebbrecht, 96, of Dexter, NY, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at the University Hospital in Syracuse.

Anne was born on July 9, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Clarence H. and Florence L. (Brace) Young. She graduated from Boonton High School in New Jersey in 1946 and went on to attend Sherwood Business School in Paterson, NJ.

On June 7, 1947, she married Edward W. Ebbrecht, in New Jersey. That same year, the couple moved to Dexter, NY, where they purchased and operated a dairy farm until the late 1960s.  Anne served as the secretary, treasurer, and true backbone of the farm while working alongside her family. This homestead is also where she raised their six children.

Following her years on the farm, Anne worked as a waitress, hostess, and banquet manager at several local establishments including the TI Club, Howard Johnson’s, the Crown and Feather, and the Carriage House in Watertown. She later worked as a clerk at the Bouyea Outlet Store in Watertown, where she eventually retired. After retirement, she devoted a decade to caring for her parents.

Anne was a longtime member of the Brownville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school when her children were young. She was a proud Girl Scout “den mother” and an active presence in her community. Anne enjoyed crocheting, painting, quilting, ceramics, and making beautiful cards she sent on birthdays and other special occasions. Other active pursuits of hers were bowling, golf, ice skating, tennis, playing the organ, and birdwatching. Anne also had a love and interest in computers and new technology that she inherited from her father, and she used the computer to stay in touch with distant family and friends. Over the last few years, she especially loved helping retrieve pickleballs for Jim and Donna on the pickleball court, keeping her active and outdoors.

Surviving are her beloved children: Gene and Debby Ebbrecht of Elmira, NY; Carol and Jack Krebs of Massena, NY; Beth Ebbrecht of Brownville, NY; Donna and Jim Costes of Brownville, NY; David and Penny Ebbrecht of Theresa, NY; and Rick and Julie Ebbrecht of Gouverneur, NY. She is also survived by her siblings: Claris Chetirkin, DE; Margaret and Dave Myers of Skaneateles, NY; and Marion and John Jorgenson of Chapin, SC; as well as her sister-in-law Janice Winter of Winter Park, FL.

Anne was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, on May 5, 2005; her son Wayne on October 11, 2003; her brother Ramon, who died in infancy; and her sister Ila Sterling.
