Alice Gertrude Hennessey Henley, October 31, 1957- October 13, 2025
Alice Henley of Dexter, NY died peacefully on October 13, 2025 in the home she and her husband built and loved. Alice was the daughter of the late Noel T. Hennessey and Florence D. Tone. Alice was the 6th of 7 children. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Henley, married for 40 years. Alice was born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 31, 1957.
She grew up in Hartford and attended Westminster Boarding School. She went on to Bard College where she met Jim. They graduated together from Bard in 1980 and married a few years later. Alice worked in the social service sector as a counselor at First Step in New London, CT. She and Jim then made the decision to move to Upper State New York.
Finding Pillar Point in Dexter, a place that was tranquil and natural, they built a beautiful home on the edge of Lake Ontario.
Alice was an avid gardener and horticulturist. She tended an extensive garden growing 6' tall perennial sun flowers and many varieties of daylilies. She became an accomplished quilter, entering her designs in shows across NY. Her love of music led her to take up the guitar. She would play the songs she and Jim loved.
Alice is survived by five brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews; Thomas and Mary Kay Hennessey and family of North Carolina, Kathleen McCormack and family of Massachusetts, Richard and Ann Hennessey and family of Connecticut, Mary Ellen Gerardi of Connecticut, and Carl Hennessey of Connecticut. She is pre-deceased by Elizabeth Hennessey of California.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd at Johnson Funeral Home.
