Obituary

Robert E. Schweitzer, 91, of Watertown, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 9, 2025.

Born on March 29, 1934, in the Town of Pamelia, NY, he was the son of Frederick and Florence (Lucas) Schweitzer. Robert graduated from Brownville-Glen Park High School in 1952. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm before beginning a long and dedicated career at Morrison's Furniture Store, where he retired as General Manager after 55 years of service.

On November 16, 1952, Robert married the love of his life, Mary Seychel, at Stone Presbyterian Church in Watertown. The couple were lifelong members of the church, where Robert also served faithfully as an Elder and choir member. Mary, a devoted homemaker, predeceased him on September 29, 2019.

Robert enjoyed spending time with his family especially at their summer cottage.  Robert had a deep love for golf and was active in the Rustic Senior Golf League. He was also an avid woodworker and a committed community servant. He served on the board of the Salvation Army and was especially proud of founding and running a twice-yearly pancake breakfast fundraiser there for 35 years. In recognition of his service, he was honored with the Macsherry Family Community Spirit Award. He remained active in the Old Newsboys campaign up until this year.

Robert was a member of the Watertown Rotary Club. As amember of the Rotary Club, Robert was widely known as one of the top annual sellers of Rotary roses.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands: Debra A. and Robert Siver Jr. of Watertown, and Roxanne Marie and Roger Young of Watertown; four grandchildren: Matthew and Vanessa Siver of Clayton, Jordan Siver of Watertown, Joshua Young and Chad Gebo of Central Square, and Alicia and Joshua Dalton of LaFargeville; and four great-grandchildren: Camden and Celeste Siver, and Harrison and Kennedy Dalton.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Robert was predeceased by his brother, Frederick "Fred" Schweitzer.

Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Stone Presbyterian Church in Watertown. Burial will follow in North Watertown Cemetery.
