Richard "Dick"
Kissell
Feb 9, 1942 — Jul 1, 2026
Richard “Dick” Kissell, 84, of Watertown, NY, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Dick was born on February 9, 1942, in Watertown, New York, the son of Clarence and Regina (McDonald) Kissell.
In 1955, his family moved to Dexter, where he spent most of his life and became well known throughout the community.
On June 16, 1979, Dick married the love of his life, Anne Parker.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Kissell; his daughters, Aimee and Adam Pittavino and Jenny and Tony Rambone; five grandchildren, Noah (Morgahn) Patton, Elena Patton, Gage Pittavino, Brayton Kissell and Laurelei; one great-granddaughter, Rorie Patton; and his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Keith Kissell.
Music was Dick’s greatest passion. He began playing in local bars at the age of 16 and quickly became a familiar face in the North Country music scene. Early in his musical journey, he met Ray John, who became a great inspiration and mentor. Throughout the years, Dick performed with several well-known local bands, including The Atomic Cats, The Monarchs, Tiny and the Triumphs, The Knights, the South Shore Road Band, and Kiss and the Kissell Brothers.
Through his music, Dick leaves behind the legacy of music, laughter and memories that will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him. He created countless friendships and brought joy to audiences for decades.
When he wasn’t performing, Dick could often be found on his bicycle. An avid cyclist, he logged countless miles throughout the North Country and proudly completed a double century, riding 200 miles in a 24-hour period.
He embraced life with enthusiasm, heart, determination, and a true sense of adventure.
In his later years, Dick worked for Bill Brown at Standard Auto, where he formed many lasting friendships and earned the respect of his coworkers through his dependable nature and strong work ethic.
Above all, Dick will be remembered for his deep love of family, his passion for music, his adventurous spirit, his warm smile, and his remarkable ability to bring people together. Whether he was performing a favorite song, riding the back roads of Northern New York, or simply sharing stories with family and friends, Dick made a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home. It was Dick‘s wish to be cremated and there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Family and friends are encouraged to celebrate Dick’s life by sharing joyful memories, listening to a favorite song, or enjoying a ride through the beautiful North Country that he loved so much.
