Larry L.
Stevens
April 3, 1941 – November 6, 2025
Larry L. Stevens, 84, of Dexter, New York, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at the Samaritan Nursing Home, where he had been a resident.
Larry was born on April 3, 1941, in Pitcairn, New York, the son of Lyle and Eleanor (Burrows) Stevens. He graduated from Lowville Academy and, following high school, proudly entered the United States Navy on May 15, 1962. He served his country until his honorable discharge on November 22, 1965. Larry continued his service as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves, where he was part of the Seabees unit for over 30 years.
Throughout his civilian career, Larry worked as a machinist for New York Air Brake for 37 years until his retirement. Dedicated to his community, he was a lifelong member of the Dexter American Legion and a long-time member and volunteer with the Dexter Fire Department.
Larry enjoyed spending weekends at his hunting camp in Turin, hunting, playing cards, and visiting the casino. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren—attending their school and sporting events, and taking great pride in helping raise Julee, David, and Madison, with whom he shared a very special bond.
Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Tina M. and John Blackwell of Glen Park, NY; two sons, Art Stevens of Oswego, NY, and Terry and Bridget Stevens of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Julee, David, and Madison Blackwell, Amanda Nelson, Samantha McCoy, Benjamin Stevens, and Ember Stevens; five great-grandchildren, Laramee, Zoey, Alicia, Reyann, and Gabrielle; his seven siblings Joyce Halladay of Lowville, NY, Doug Stevens of NY, Linda Hoskins-Carr, of Lyons Falls, NY, Michael Hoskins, Lyons Falls, NY Rhudell Burriss of Lowville, NY, Jeffrey Hoskins, Lyons, Falls, NY and Robin Hoskins of Lyons Falls, NY, several nieces and nephews, and a very special girlfriend at the nursing home, Brandi Stephens.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Roger Burriss.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 13, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, with a funeral service and military honors to follow at 6:00 p.m.
