Obituary

Joan M. Monroe, 70, of Brownville, NY, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, at the Hospice of Jefferson County residence at the Ellis Farm.

Born on June 14, 1954, in Watertown , NY to James E. and Beverly Ann (Alton) Monroe. Joan graduated from Indian River High School in 1974 and spent 43 years serving as a Certified Surgical Technologist at Samaritan Medical Center. She retired on July 15, 2018, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and excellence in her work.

She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church, Joan was known for her love of music, often playing guitar during services. She was an avid fisher, gardener, and traveler, and her deep appreciation for her country was a hallmark of her character—fitting for someone born on Flag Day.

Joan is survived by her mother, Beverly Ann Monroe; her sisters, Cathy (Mike) Trembley of Glen Park, NY, and Cheri (Tim) Connor of Brownville, NY; and her nieces and nephews: Carrie (Timothy) Weaver of Adams Center, NY, James Trembley of Glen Park, NY, Daniel Connor of Brownville, NY, and Colleen (Christopher) Shear of Brownville, NY. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews: Cayla, Cady, Andie, Charlotte, Quinn, Aria, Callie, and Connor, numerous cousins, an adopted niece and her husband, Carrie Lewandowski and Andy of Watertown, NY and her best friend Tina Corey.

Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.     A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial in Brownville Cemetery. The family would request you attend casually and patriotically in red, white, and blue.
