Obituary

Janet Lynn Beirman, 76, formerly of Philadelphia, NY, passed away on December 29, 2025, in Tampa, Florida.

Janet was born on November 26, 1949, in Watertown, NY, the daughter of Harry M and Joyce M (Vorce)Purcell. Known as "Tooter" from an early age, she was raised on Sand Street in Philadelphia and loved reminiscing about her youth, especially the cherished memories with the Drakes, her family's lifelong friends. Her proudest and most joyful accomplishment was being the mother of her son, Robert Lynn Beirman.

She graduated from Indian River Central School in 1967. Valuing education, later in life Tooter went on to attend Jefferson Community college studying accounting. In 1984, Tooter re-located to Florida, where she worked her way through bookkeeping and office jobs into the position of Office Manager with the Children's Board of Hillsborough County. She was proud to be part of something bigger than she was and remained in that position until her retirement in 2013.

Janet (as known in Tampa) was a devout Christian who enjoyed preparing weekly meals for her bible study friends. She built lasting and meaningful friendships while living in Tampa. She had a passion for dancing and spent countless weekends on the dance floor with friends. Janet also enjoyed vacations with her granddaughter, Danielle, and her friends where the destination of choice would be a cruise ship. She loved shopping and proudly curated a coveted collection of handbags.

Janet loved spending summers in Philadelphia visiting family and friends. Known affectionately as the "Favorite Aunt," likewise, she especially enjoyed welcoming loved ones for vacations at her home in Tampa.

Later in life, Janet adopted Princess, a dog who quickly became her closest companion and filled her days with love. Princess' name was fitting as Janet referred to herself as the Queen and even wore a tiara on her birthday every year.

Janet is survived by her much-loved son, Robert L. Beirman, Fulton, NY; her cherished granddaughter, Danielle H. Beirman, Arlington, VA; and her siblings, James H. (Shari) Purcell, Little Falls, NY, Carol K. Purcell-Mitchell, Ithaca, NY, and John D. (Tami) Purcell, Baldwinsville, NY. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, including RaeAnne LaFave, Derek (Brenda) Leddy, James Q. Purcell, Jennifer (Shawn) Matteson, Tarrick Mitchell, Tanisha Mitchell, and LeeAnne Purcell. Additionally, she is survived by many great-nieces and nephews and her precious Princess.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, two sisters: Betsy A. LaClair and Cathy L. Leddy, and brother-in-law, Raymond C. LaClair. In keeping with her deep Christian faith, Janet chose to be an organ donor, and her generous gift contributed to important medical research.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, NY. A Memorial Service will be held  at 11 a.m. at the Philadelphia Methodist Church on Saturday, April 11th.  Burial will immediately follow in Sandy Hollow Cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome to join the family for a luncheon following services at the Philadelphia American Legion.

Donations in Janet's memory may be made to the Grace Family Church in Tampa, Florida or the Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Philadelphia, New York.
