CHAUMONT, NY – Ethel A. Pettey, 101, of Chaumont, New York, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 at the Hospice Residence of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 24, 1925, in Clayton, New York, she was the daughter of Frank and Bertha (LaRose) Daniels. Ethel attended Clayton High School.

On December 2, 1941, she married the love of her life, Leo T. Pettey. The couple resided in Chaumont, where they owned and operated a dairy farm for several years before later moving to Three Mile Bay. Alongside her role as a devoted homemaker, Ethel worked faithfully beside her husband on the family farm.

Ethel was a dedicated member of the Three Mile Bay Methodist Church, where she served on the Pastor-Parish Committee for many years. She was an exceptional cook and baker, making every meal a special occasion for family and friends. Ethel also enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting, music, and square dancing.

Surviving are her two children, Leo F. Pettey and his companion, Sue Snow, of Chaumont, and Sherri and Leo Wilson of Chaumont; six grandchildren, Tammy DeCilles, Frank (Renee) Pettey, William Pettey, Joshua (Jaclyn) Wilson, Jared Wilson, and Isaiah Wilson and his girlfriend Simarra Willett; two great-grandsons, Logan Pettey and Jack Wilson; a sister, Shirley Winnette of Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo; a sister, Marguerite Ketchum; and two brothers, Donald “Jack” Daniels and James Daniels.

Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home, due to ongoing renovations calling hours will be held on Friday, July 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 11 a.m.at the funeral home, followed by burial in Dexter Cemetery.

Donations in Ethel’s memory may be made to the Three Mile Bay Methodist Church, the Lyme Central School Booster Club or Hospice of Jefferson County.
