Beverly Ann Monroe, 91, of Brownville, NY, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, where she had been a resident.
She was born on February 11, 1935, in Philadelphia, NY, the daughter of Ross and Dorothy (Noone) Alton. Beverly attended Philadelphia High School.
She married James Monroe on August 16, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Philadelphia, New York. The couple made their home in Philadelphia for many years before moving to Brownville in 1984.
A devoted wife and mother, Beverly was primarily a homemaker while also working part-time at a local bank. After relocating to Brownville, she was employed at Brennon’s Grocery Store for 18 years as a clerk, holding various other positions before retiring in 2003.
Beverly had a passion for baking and was known for making the best pies and made numerous wedding cakes for family and friends. She enjoyed fishing, woodworking, knitting, crocheting, and sewing, and was an accomplished seamstress.
She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church. She was also a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Philadelphia and was a member of the Philadelphia Co-op.
Among her survivors are her daughter and two sons-in-law, Catherine “Cathy” and Mike Trembley of Glen Park, NY and Tim Connor of Brownville, NY; four grandchildren, Carrie and Timothy Weaver, Adam’s Center, NY, James Trembley of Glen Park, NY, Daniel Connor and Lila Love of Evan’s Mills, NY and Colleen and Chris Shear, Brownville, NY; 12 great grandchildren, Cayla, Cady, Andie, Charlotte, Callie,Connor. Quinn, Aria, Connor, Lucy, Charlie and Henry; along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Monroe; two daughters, Joan M. Monroe and Cheryl “Cheri” Connor; two brothers, James Alton and Robert Alton; and two sisters, Mary Burnham and Betty J. Hull.
Arrangements are under the care of Johnson Funeral Home. Due to renovations, services will be held at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey Street, Watertown.
Calling hours will be held Monday, July 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.at the funeral home.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Brownville Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church.
