Obituary

Betty M. Bartlett, 99, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at the Samaritan Nursing Home, where she had been a resident.

Born on December 1, 1926, in the Town of Champion, New York, the daughter of Guy and Ella (Hayes) Peck, Betty graduated from Brownville High School.

On September 7, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Carlton J. Bartlett, at the Brownville Methodist Church. The couple resided in Brownville, where they owned and operated a farm. Betty was also employed as an office worker with Great American Insurance Company. She retired in 1993 from Ann's Stand, where she worked for several years as a member of the kitchen staff.

Betty enjoyed many hobbies, including crafts, crocheting, and woodworking, but most of all she cherished spending time with her family. Following the passing of her husband, she shared many happy years with her companion, Leland Casler. Together, they enjoyed wintering in Florida and spending time with friends and family.

Betty is survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Patricia J. (Kirk) Herse of Watertown, NY, and Sally (Chuck) Jones of New Port Richey, Florida; four grandchildren; Heather (Mike) Angello, Amber (Ben) Bibbins, Brittney Herse, and Chelsea ( Kyle) Doyle; six great-grandchildren, Michael, Mia, Johnathan, Charleigh, Bentley, and Ryder; many nieces and nephews; and Leland's daughter and her husband, Jill (Bobby) Schultz and family, who remained very close to Betty.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carlton J. Bartlett; her companion, Leland Casler; her brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Geneva) Peck; and her two sisters and their husbands, Lois (Gordon) Jones and Irene (Charles) Paul.

Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson Funeral Home.  Due to renovations, calling hours will be held on Friday, May 1, from noon to 1:00 PM at our affiliated location, Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with burial to take place in Dexter Cemetery.
