Obituary

Bernard E. Plummer, 67, of Watertown, New York, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a 7 ½ month battle with lung cancer.

Bernie was born on February 25,1957 in Watertown, New York, the son of Francis and Lorette (Johnson) Plummer Sr.

Throughout his life, Bernie held various jobs, including roles at Samaritan Medical Center, Champion (Deferiet) Paper Mill, Fort Drum, Priority Freight, Pala wood, and several other trucking companies; however, he found his true passion when he and his wife, Sandy, owned and operated Diane's Coffee Shop in Dexter from 2002 to 2022. Despite facing health challenges, Bernie's dedication to his customers never wavered until they sold the diner in March 2022.

Bernie found love and companionship with Sandra Hamilton, who he married on February 16, 1998, after meeting on September 3, 1994. While Bernie had experienced two previous marriages that ended in divorce, his union with Sandy brought him enduring happiness and companionship. Together they shared a deep bond that enriched their lives and brought joy to those around them.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Sandra; two sons -  Bernard Plummer Jr. of Watertown, NY and Christopher Plummer of Morristown, NY; a stepson Cory Martuzas of Watertown; four daughters - Kristen (Jim) Biccum of Seneca Falls, NY, Claire (Donnie) Ceresoli of Morristown NY, Elizabeth Plummer of Morristown, NY, and Cassi Plummer and her partner Aron Prouty of Evans Mills, NY; two brothers - Larry Plummer of Florida and James (Linda) Plummer of Watertown, NY; a sister Brenda Pacella of Pillar Point, NY; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernie is predeceased by his parents and two brothers - Steve and Francis Plummer Jr.

Bernie was a very caring, hardworking, generous, funny, and fun-loving person who loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed the outdoors, collecting coins, taking trips to Florida with his daughter Cassi, and telling stories of his adventures. He also took great pride in taking care of his customers at Diane's Coffee Shop.

Bernie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served with warmth and kindness. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
