Obituary

Carmen M. McWilliams, 95, passed away on March 27 th at Samaritan Summit Village where she had resided since March 27, 2017, with her loving family surrounding her. Carmen was born on December 4, 1922 in Hopkinton, NY to Ezra and Mabel LaShomb Perry. Carmen graduated from St. Regis High School and A. Barton Hepburn Hospital Nursing School, now Claxton Hospital, Ogdensburg, NY. Carmen married Charles McWilliams on March 23, 1945.  They lived in Ogdensburg moving to Sackets Harbor in 1940.  Charles died August 10, 2001. Carmen was a homemaker for many years.  Occasionally she did private duty nursing. She worked for Dr. J. B. Bickel in Sackets Harbor for 11 years.  After Dr. Bickel retired she worked at Mercy Hospital for 14 years.  She was school nurse at Sackets Harbor Central School for 1 year. Carmen belonged to the Wanderlust Club and Senior Citizens.  In the past she was on the Hay Memorial Library Board and a volunteer at Pickering Beach Museum in the summer. Carmen enjoyed going out to eat every month with her "Widowed" friends.  Carmen was a very caring person.  She really enjoyed being with her family and interested in everything going on in their lives. Carmen is survived by her daughter Sue (Barry) Smith, Sackets Harbor; three sons, Charlie (Virginia) McWilliams of Moodus, Conn., and granddaughter Kim (Brooks) Goodison and Stacy McWilliams; Greg (Cathy) McWilliams of Ossining, NY and grandsons Brian McWilliams, Kevin ( Dana) McWilliams and Marc (Jeanette) McWilliams; Dr. Mark (Shayne) McWilliams of Sackets Harbor and grandsons Dr. Gregory McWilliams (partner Scott Medway) and Dr. Douglas McWilliams and (fiancé Dr. Mekala Raman)  She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren; Alicia, Laina, Pearce, Max, Oliver and Sidney and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Charles; Carmen is predeceased by her grandson Jason Smith and her brothers Lyndon, Armand, and Lionel. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.  Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.  A Word Service and Holy Communion will be held on Saturday at St. Andrews Church, Sackets Harbor, NY at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor. Memorial donations may be made to the Food Pantry at St. Andrews Church, Hay Memorial Library of Sackets Harbor or St. Jude's.
