Catherine E. Conway

Catherine E. Conway , 88 of 204 Washington St., Brownville, NY, died Friday 11:00 a.m. in the Madonna Home, Watertown, NY. She had been a resident there for the past year.

Born in Watertown, NY on September 2, 1919, she was the daughter of Edward and Henrietta Mattraw. She graduated from Watertown High School and married Howard W. Conway on May 23, 1943 at the 1st United Methodist Church of Watertown. The couple lived in Watertown a short time and then resided in Brownville. Mr. Conway died in 1994.

She was an Account Clerk, employed by Jefferson County Social Services for 17 years until retiring on July 5, 1982.

She was a Charter Member and Past President of Jefferson County Rock and Mineral Club, Past President in 1958-1959 of American Legion Auxiliary Post 61 and 70 year member, and enjoyed gardening, quilting and rock and mineral collecting.

She is survived by daughters Maureen L. Conway of Brownville and Patricia J. Blair of Thomasville, Georgia. She has two grandsons William and Christopher Blair and brothers Andrew Mattraw of Black Lake, Gordon Mattraw Sr. of Watertown and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a ˝ brother Ray Mattraw and ˝ sister Hazel Buettner and sisters Marie Augustus and Muriel Hoselton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will be in Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
